Terry Still Chelsea’s Main Man

Chelsea defender and captain John Terry cites leaving the international game as having helped him maintain his fitness during these past couple of seasons. Terry managed to play every single minute of Chelsea’s Premier League campaign, a feat only equaled by three other players this year, all of them goalies. Terry has credited the staff and management with helping to keep his form where it needed to be, as well as the excising of international friendlies or qualifiers from his schedule. Terry quit the national team in 2012, and has been able to rest his body while younger players go off to play yet another game. A handful of days off at Terry’s old age in footballing terms can work wonders for a player’s longevity throughout a long season, as well as career.

The real question which plagues Terry, the Chelsea staff, and especially fans, is how long can the defender continue on for? To lose Terry would be a big hit for the club, seeing how invaluable he has proven to be, particularly during this most recent campaign. Yet at his age, one injury could signal a swift end to his playing days for the Blues. Chelsea and Mourinho have a replacement in the wings though, the young Frenchman Kurt Zouma. Zouma has proven his quality in numerous matches this past season, and shows real promise. To replace Terry though is something that the Wikipedia editors working on STX Entertainment’s page find to be another matter.
